Cowtown Range Shoot

Cowtown Range shoot: by Dan Zuczek.

On June 12th, the detachment held a shooting event at the Cowtown range in Peoria.  It was the first time we have gotten together as a detachment since we were chartered and since the Covid virus hit.  It just felt good to go out and make some noise. I bought my Mini 14 a year ago and this was the first time I shot it.  My wife barbara also got into the action.  She uses a motorized scooter most of the time and she was able to use my Marlin Glenfield 60, 22 cal rifle.  I bought this rifle back in 1981.  It a perfect rifle for her to shoot as it does not have much of a kick and is a weapon she can handle.  There were about a dozen of us attending.  The range is set up where you rent out a bay for your group.  You don’t have range masters watching all the time but you are expected to follow standard safety protocols and do a bit more self-policing. It is a nice range that is off the grid.  You need to bring everything you need with you.  They have shorter range pistol bays and longer-range rifle bays for distance shooting. Rick, who operates the range is one of our detachment members and made sure we had a great time.  I would highly recommend this range for occasional visits or for a membership if you like to shoot a lot.  Click here to see photos from this event.
